And it seems that not a week goes by these days without some lavish new brand or elaborate ‘magic bullet’ serum or cream hitting the high street.

It’s captivating stuff, even for a cynical guy like me.

But here’s the thing.

You don't need fancy nonsense to have great skin. Nor do you need a super complicated skincare routine that starts every day as a chore.

And that, my friend, is a fact.

It’s funny:

Because a lot of 'experts' hate on quick and simple skin care routines.

Me? I think they’re essential.

This Makes Anti-Ageing Skin Care 10 x Easier

For the vast majority of people, I recommend a simple 3 step skincare system:

  1. Wash your face
  2. Treat your face
  3. Protect your face

All of which can be done and dusted in less than a few minutes, twice daily.

Why does this matter?

Because your skin is crying out for a bit of routine.

And by implementing an easy to follow, quick and simple skincare system, with as few products as possible, you’re ten times more likely to stick to it.

But that’s not all.

You see, I know it’s tempting to fill your bathroom cabinet with lots of shiny new luxury cosmetics.

But you’re just overcomplicating matters, and wasting your money in the process.

Let me say this straight:

DO NOT get sucked in by those pretentious TV adverts enticing you to part with your hard-earned cash.

The vast majority of skin care products promise way more than they can deliver.

They can also contradict one another and risk overwhelming your skin with too many treatments.

This is exactly what I did for years.

Then it hit me:

A simple, stripped-back skin care routine is all I ever needed.

And so, by enlisting the help of yours truly, I want you to be especially selective with your skincare arsenal from this point forward.

With this in mind, my best advice for fending off those wrinkles and maintaining a smooth, hydrated completion can be summarised in one line.

Focus on the important few skin care products and ignore EVERYTHING else.

It's fair to say that most of the busy people I meet in day-to-day life are not particularly interested in skin care.

And rightly so.

There are, after all, far more pressing things to concern ourselves with and it’s important to keep your priorities in order.

In my experience, the average person's opinion of the skincare industry ranges from boredom, mistrust, and if they're lucky, curiosity.

But If you are serious about upping your skin care game, even if you can only spare a few extra minutes a day, it is worth considering the following points carefully.

And don’t worry, I’ll keep this nice and simple.


Here’s What Happens When You Take a Closer Look At Your Skin

Creating a decent skincare regime starts with figuring out what type of skin you have.

Thankfully, that doesn’t involve visiting a dermatologist.

It does, however, require a tiny bit of forethought on your part since different skin types have different characteristics and conditions.

These are the consequence of many things:

Your genes, hormones, lifestyle choices, medication, and environmental factors such as pollution and the weather.

What you really need to do here is to think of your skin like you would a smart new fitted suit or skirt.

Since you dress according to your body shape, you should devise a skincare routine that perfectly complements your skin type.

Makes sense, right?

Most of the clever folks in the dermatology industry classify skin into five main types:

  1. Oily skin
  2. Dry skin
  3. Combination skin
  4. Sensitive skin
  5. Normal skin

How do you determine which of the above skin types you fall into?

Well, sadly, there's no real litmus test here.

You just need to pay attention to your skin and understand that it can fluctuate from one month to the next.

With that being said, you should begin to notice common skin patterns and characteristics that can be treated accordingly.

For instance:

If you’re shiny all over, you’re most likely an oily kind due to an overproduction of sebum.

However, if your skin tends to get patchy, flaky or tight, you probably have dry skin.

Combination skin is an unfortunate medley of both oily and dry, whereas sensitive skin typically presents itself with red, blotchy or irritated areas.

And finally:

If your skin is fairly balanced on the whole, congratulations you lucky person, you have a normal skin type.

Beyond these prescriptive definitions, a man or women's skin can be dehydrated (a lack of moisture) or blemish and acne prone.



Good News:

After you have figured out what type of skin you have, everything else should fall neatly into place.

You can then narrow down those few kick ass products to form part of your new daily skincare routine and move on with the rest of your life.

Remember…’s easy to get overwhelmed at this stage and forget to keep things SIMPLE.

If you’re rushed for time, like practically every other person I know, a 10-step Korean beauty regime is not going to do you (or your patience) any favours.

My best advice?

You want to be in and out of that bathroom in less than a few minutes, with minimum fuss or effort required on your part.

...yet safe in the knowledge that your skin has been treated effectively for the day ahead.

And regardless of it says in those glossy skin care magazines, this type of routine can ONLY be achieved with the smallest number of products as possible.

3 Products That Will Change Your Skin Forever

I would like to hope that the average man and woman are already familiar with the baseline products of any skin care routine:

A face wash or soap and, if you’re ahead of the game, a moisturiser.

Beyond this is where I’d like to start fine tuning your mindset by introducing a few additional products.

Together these really can deliver the kind smooth, hydrated and younger-looking complexion that will make your friends green with envy.

These are:

  1. A face serum
  2. An under eye gel
  3. A retinol cream

When combined with a decent cleanser (face wash), this short and sweet list of products is ALL your skin will ever need for a champion look.

Can I be totally honest with you?

For purely selfish reasons, I’m ashamed to say that I spent a TON of money figuring out the single best routine for my skin.


Because I really didn’t like my ageing appearance.

I was loaded down with responsibilities, stressed out and massively short on time.

And boy did it show.

But as I sharpened and refined my tiny arsenal of skincare products, it slowly dawned on me that I might not be using them correctly.

As it turns out, I wasn’t.

You see:

There’s more to skincare than just slapping on a few dollops of moisturiser, no matter how much the darn thing cost you.

In fact, as I discovered, each layer in your skincare routine has a unique sequence and purpose.

And while the vast majority of brands focus on driving people to fantasize about their imminent increase in sex appeal...

...they fail miserably at telling us exactly how to use their products on our skin in the first place.

Specifically, in which order should they be applied for maximum effectiveness.

It is for this reason that most men and women see little to no visible improvement in the appearance of their face after starting a new skincare routine.

Like me, they waste not only their money, but worse still, their precious time.

Because when it comes to skincare, as I found out the hard way, it is possible to have too much of a good thing.

The truth is:

Certain products are just not designed to complement each other at all.

In fact, you can even cause MORE skin issues by combining one product with another, than if you had never bothered in the first place.

And so, I came to a painstaking conclusion:

If you want a truly effective skin care routine, proper sequence matters.

Which is why it’s a good idea to pay attention to the next bit.

It’s going to save you a shed load of money, and time.

If You Want Awesome Skin, Follow This Simple Routine

For the most part, your day to day life looks a pretty hygienic place to be.

And if you can’t see any dirt on your hands, then surely they’re clean, right?


Computer keyboards, mouses, steering wheels, mobile phones, fridge handles and children's toys ALL contain more bacteria than an average toilet seat.

And that is not a comprehensive list, either.

Why does this matter?

Because viral and bacterial infections suck.

Not only can they wipe you out for days, they can distort your gut health, ruin the condition of your skin, and make you feel generally all-round shitty.

BUT, it’s not all bad news.

In fact, there’s one quick and simple thing you can do before cleansing your face each day that can reduce the risk of infection by more than 90%:

1. Wash your hands.

And I don’t just mean a brisk rinse under the cold tap.

I’m talking about properly washing your hands with soap and warm water, for at least 20-30 seconds.

Skincare studies have shown that only a miniscule percentage of people wash their hands correctly before cleansing their face.

The vast majority don’t even bother.

THIS is why I added a section on hand washing before we dive into the weeds of treating and protecting your skin.

So please, do yourself a favour and start EVERY skincare routine with a thorough wash of those hands.

You'll only regret it if you don't, you filthy animal.

2. Wash your face.

Every good skin care routine, including mine, starts with cleansing.

And it’s vital that your routine does too.

Cleansing, by the way, is just a fancy word for washing your face.

Needless to say:

A decent cleanser should remove excess dirt, oil and dead skin cells that have built up throughout the day.

Yet gentle enough not to dry out your skin or strip away its natural sebum.

Above all:

Try to pick a cleanser that is PH balanced and, preferably, one that moisturises and prolongs hydration in the skin at the same time.

This will help to maintain a clear and healthy looking complexion.

But not only that.

It will also ensure that your skin enjoys the MAXIMUM benefit from any subsequent treatments you choose to apply.

Which, conveniently, leads me to step 3.

3. Treat your face.

This is the sweet spot in my skin care routine.

The part that sets the men from the boys (and the women from the girls), where we really get down to business.

Here’s why:

In next to no time, I have no doubt that you will grasp the concept of proper hand washing and face cleansing.

These, after all, are the easy bits, right?

But for me personally, I wasted a ridiculous amount of time agonising over the best treatments for my skin, often mystified by what each product was supposed to do.

And I didn’t skimp, either.

Yet despite being highly motivated and genuinely seduced by the prospect of getting a grip on my haggard skin…

...I soon gave up on each and every new treatment I tried.


Because they ALL meant spending way too much time in the bathroom or failed to live up to the claims made on the bottle.

Often it was both.

And so, when it came to treating my face, I forced myself to adopt two new skin care rules from that point forward:

  1. Make it quick
  2. Make it effective

It really is that simple.

But here’s the interesting thing:

Both rules became magically self-regulating the minute I started my new skin care routine.

To put that another way:

Because the treatments were quick and I could see them working, I never (ever) wanted to stop.

Trust me:

This simple change of mindset - focusing on quick and effective treatments only - will get YOU younger-looking skin ahead of everyone else.

And so, in my world, treating your skin, means using the following tried (and very much tested) products:

  1. A face serum
  2. An under eye gel
  3. A retinol cream

In precisely that order.

Bottom line:

These 3 easy to apply products deliver a highly potent shot of goodness directly into your skin, that’s absorbed in seconds.

This means that you can cover all your bases AND target specific concerns like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, age spots, acne or dry skin - all at the same time.

Pretty cool, huh?

A word of caution:

Face serums come in many forms and not all are created equal.

My best advice here is to start with a high quality 18% to 20% Vitamin C Serum and then apply Hyaluronic Acid Serum for hydration.

Wherever possible, opt for naturally-derived, botanical and organic treatments since these will be kinder on your skin.

I insist on using cruelty-free brands only. Vegan certification is also a bonus.

And so, in a nutshell...

My 2021 quick, simple (and HUGELY effective) skincare routine looks like this: 

  1. Wash hands - 30 seconds
  2. Cleanse face - 30 seconds
  3. Vitamin C Serum - 15 seconds
  4. Hyaluronic Acid Serum - 15 seconds
  5. Eye Gel - 15 seconds
  6. Retinol Cream - 15 seconds

Total time = 2 minutes.

Yes, you read that right...

Just TWO short minutes, twice daily, is all your skin will ever need for a clear and vibrant complexion from this point forward.


But wait – before we give each other a virtual 'high five' - there’s more.

Because I've deliberately missed off one CRUCIAL component of my skin care routine.

It’s so important that I have dedicated an entire chapter to it.

It is, after all, the one single thing that skin care experts, dermatologists and beauty buffs agree on when it comes to preventing premature skin ageing.

Are you intrigued?

You should be.

Just stay with me for one more chapter and I will reveal all.



Ever you ever noticed?

Some people are able to maintain a youthful complexion well into their 50s and 60s.

In fact, they can often look BETTER with age.

Astonishing, isn’t it?

At the other end of the ageing spectrum, there are others who suffer a noticeable decline in their sprightly looks the minute they hit thirty.

So what’s going on here?

Well, it’s a phenomenon that has baffled men and women for generations.

And luckily for all of us, there is a simple answer to this:

Sun exposure.

To put that another way:

The sun’s rays can wreak havoc with your skin, and are the single leading cause of premature ageing.

Let me explain.

Hundreds if not thousands of clinical studies have proved, beyond ANY doubt, that prolonged sun exposure causes:

  1. Premature wrinkling
  2. Sagging skin and under eye bags
  3. Age spots and hyperpigmentation
  4. Thinning of skin elasticity
  5. Blotchiness and yellowing

Bottom line:

No matter how diligent you are with the skin care regime I outlined in the previous chapter, your efforts are in vain if you fail to protect your skin from the sun.

If You Don't Apply This Your Skin Will Hate You Forever

So what can you do about it?

Well, all things considered, it really is a no-brainer:

Apply sunscreen, of course.

And not just in the summer months or when it’s particularly hot outside, either.

From this point forward, I’m recommending that you apply sunscreen EVERY day of the year.


Because those nasty little UV rays can penetrate the atmosphere and cause damage to your skin on even the most cloudy days.

It’s true.

And while no sunscreen is able to block 100% of all UV rays, a simple SPF 15 (which gives around 93% protection) or SPF 30 (97% protection), is all you will ever need.

The word SPF, by the way, means 'Sun Protection Factor'. And is a relative measure of how long a sunscreen will protect you from UV rays.

Now admittedly, I spent much of my youth craving that sun-kissed holiday glow without any real protection for my poor, frazzled skin.

In fact, the importance of using sunscreen on a daily basis failed to fully register until I was well into my thirties.

The most annoying thing?

For the best part of 20 years, I was convinced that sunscreens were still the same as those thick, greasy, pore-blocking products my Mum used to slap on me as a kid.

And despite the dangers of excessive sun exposure, I just couldn’t be arsed with it.

Does this sound familiar?

Well, I have good news for you, my friend.

Because sunscreens have come a LONG way in the past few years.

Better still:

Provided you opt for a super-lightweight SPF with a spray mist bottle, all that’s required is one or two spritz directly on your face to finish each morning skincare regime.

I’m talking 10-15 seconds, max.

And just in case you’re wondering:

It’s NEVER too late to start using sunscreen.

Particularly if you combine it with the other products I outline in Chapter 3.

The cool thing is:

You have a constant turnover of fresh skin cells.

Look after these bad boys with sunscreen and you’re giving your skin the best possible defence against wrinkles and, more importantly, skin cancer.

Make no mistake about it.

It's all very well focusing on looking younger but skin cancer can, quite frankly, kill you.

Not only that.

Skin cancer can affect people of any age and survival rates decline sharply the older you are.

So if you think you have left it too late, let me assure you that you most certainly have not.

And let’s not forget.

While sunscreen is busy protecting your face from UV rays, forming an invisible force field on top of your skin...

And if you are going to commit to this, it would nice to have some idea of exactly when your skin will start to show new signs of life, right?

I totally get it.

But before we dive into that, it’s worth mentioning the following observation:

Over the years, most of the skin care advice and recommendations that I have offered people have been a complete waste of time.

It’s sad but very much true, I’m afraid.

Allow me to explain.

You see:

Despite their best intentions, the vast majority of men and women who read this post will do absolutely nothing about it.

I’m not offended, of course.

That’s the way most folks operate.

The fact is:

People LOVE consuming information but very few (like, less than 1 in 10) will actually get off their arse and do something about it.

Use This Simple Hack For Better Skin

And so, to improve your chances of success, I’m setting you a challenge.

Here's the deal.

I want you to give my quick and simple skin care routine just 10 days, starting from the minute your shiny new products enter the bathroom cabinet.

If required, revisit Chapter 4 of this guide to refresh your memory.

That way, there can be no confusion about the easy, step by step process I want you to follow.

Then, with your products and routine in place...

...quite simply, just do it.

Trust me. It’ll be worth it.

Chances are, you’ll wonder how it can work when the routine is so ridiculously quick and simple.

This Could Define Your Success

But how many days, weeks or months does it take before the real magic happens on your face?

Here’s a clue:

The skin regenerates itself every 30-50 days.

This can sometimes take longer, depending on your age and lifestyle choices.

With that in mind:

I always recommend waiting at least three months after starting a new skin care regime.

Around this time is when you (and other people) should begin to notice a difference in fine lines, sun damage, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation.

"THREE MONTHS!?" - I hear you scream.

I know. It's frustrating.

But the fact is:

When it comes to skin care that actually works, you have to play the long game.

So don’t get discouraged if your skin doesn’t miraculously change overnight on day one.

It's suffered years of neglect, after all, and you'll need to exercise a bit of patience to put things right.

With that being said:

The trick, of course, is to purchase the products and implement the routine as soon as you can.

This will effectively set the clock ticking and begin the process of regenerating your skin to its former glory.

Better still.

If you're not looking to fix sun damage or general skin ageing, the healing time is MUCH quicker.

In fact, if you suffer from acne, dry or dehydrated skin, for example, you may see significant results in as little as one week.

Anti-Ageing Skin Care: In a Nutshell
