Applying a few drops of Mend Vitamin C Serum to your face takes less than 10 seconds, and should be an integral part of your morning skincare routine. Period.
Well, you know it’s a powerful antioxidant, skin brightener and collagen booster. But to save time - something we LOVE doing here at Mend HQ - why not just apply it to our skin after cleansing at night only and letting it work it's magic while we sleep?
It's a good question. And certainly something we gave serious thought to when creating our rapid fix-all skincare collection. But once you understand just how beneficial it is to apply Vitamin C Serum before you leave the house each morning, you will never skip this crucial part of your skin care routine again.
A Morning Dose of Vitamin C Serum
Here are eight reasons why you should use Mend Vitamin C Serum in the morning:
1. It has UV protectant qualities.
That doesn’t make it the same as, or something to be used instead of an SPF. Vitamin C Serum can't absorb UVA and UVB rays in the same way that a sunscreen does.
But using it in the morning, to provide some UV protection, is a bit of a no-brainer. Unless you’re living in the Nordic countries in summer where there is no darkness, your skin isn’t going to be exposed to UV rays at night.
2. It works well with sunscreen.
Using Vitamin C Serum in tandem with an SPF has been scientifically proven to deliver far greater protection from the sun than using SPF alone. So, you’re maximising the skin-loving benefits not just of Vitamin C Serum, but of your sunscreen as well.
3. It fights daytime free radicals.
Its free-radical fighting properties are best deployed during daylight hours, when you’re more likely to be exposed to them.
4. You won't forget to apply it.
Regular use of Vitamin C has a cumulative effect in the skin, and research suggests that we're more likely to stick to an activity if it's carried out during the morning hours.
5. It makes layering easier.
The Mend Vitamin C Serum formula makes it great to layer under other products for daytime use. Because its light and non-greasy, it’s not going to sit heavy on your skin and make you look like you’ve just taken a bath in butter. Instead, it will absorb quickly and can be used under Mend Hyaluronic Acid Serum, Mend Bright Eye Gel and, if you wish, a high quality SPF.
6. It compliments retinol.
The UV protecting benefits of Vitamin C will go some way to counteracting the effects of retinol use, which include increased photosensitivity (when your skin is more prone to sunburn).
To minimise any sensitivity to either product, we always suggest Vitamin C Serum in the morning and Retinol Cream at night. This gives both time to work with maximum efficacy.
